I made it by drilling a hole in the side of the bar to a fixed depth, then milling away the upper surface of the bar leaving only a shallow notch. The end of the fret stops against the end of the slot, fixing the width of the notch. Note how it's only grabbing the last 7/16" of the fret, so that the fret can be pre-curved, even to a tight radius.

But this guitar wasn't perfect. While it didn't need a truss rod adjustment and action was set nicely at 1.5mm there was some fret buzz on the 11th fret on the low E and G strings and the 12th fret on the low E. Using a fret rocker I found the 11th, 13th, and 14th frets were all high and needed leveling.

My favorite stone is an 8" x 2" Medium Grit Norton Sharpening Stone. I have one that I've been using on frets for many years. An 8" long stone does a fine job leveling frets, as long as you are careful to work the surface evenly, and keep checking with a straightedge. We've talked about the technique on some other threads.
