I use a right angle impact driver along with a right angle drill adaptor with a 3/4" socket. It was cheap and works, plus you can use the impact driver for other work, as needed. The trigger is up against the mill head, so a slight pressure activates it You can hold the driver near its bottom.

A few years ago I installed a Kurt power drawbar on my Lagun cnc mill. It has been one of the best upgrades I've done. Despite the simplicity it was expensive. It also took a fair amount of time to install. So I have this Grizzly mill that has a riser block installed on it. It's REALLY tall. I have to stand on something to get to the drawbar.

The socket is a 1/2″ drive 12 point 3/4″ impact socket. I found a 1/4″ hex drive to 1/2″ square drive adapter at the big box store and Loctited it into the impact driver. It's ridiculously high and looks even crazier on the mill, but it's worth it since it makes tool changes easy. It takes about 10 seconds to change out a collet.

First step is a power drawbar. Rather than use the very common impact wrench approach, I wanted something that would leave the collet in place, and simply pop out the tool. Feb 18, 2017. #7. The Griz specs are peak amperage and maybe locked rotor or momentary peak torque. At that level it would break the drawbar if that was continuous and the motor would be huge. I would look at an electric impact drill or something with a clutch so you could set the torque limit.
