Crank wheels are not made to grind on the sides, even touching up the thrust surfaces is a pain in the ass. You have to keep the side of the wheel dressed with a diamond or you'll burn the surface and introduce taper to the thrust faces. Grinding the side of the wheel straight is VERY time consuming.

Crank grinding is the worst money maker in my shop. I charge $150 for a typical V8 and it takes a minimum of 1.5 hrs per. But I take the time to match radiuses, equalize the strokes, correct the index as much as I can, and I always sweep every journal. And like a previous poster mentioned, I set up on the snout and the rear seal surface.
