Was wondering if it makes sense in just grind the shower base in the slab, instead of removing a bigger part of the slab, pour a new concrete shower base and form the slopes of the shower base with screed.

concrete grinding - Eng-Tips Forums

There was a lot of aggregate and larger diameters, and this concrete compared to other slabs I have ground before was exceptionally durable and abrasion resistant. There was almost no edge chipping, and it took about 20 minutes of back and forth grinding just to do about four feet, about 5 times longer than similar joints.

Now, I have used an a...

anyone have experience concrete floor grinding?

The manufacturer says this grinder can remove 1/32" over 350-500 feet per hour. Four-plus hours of grinding sounds like a bit of a slog, but if it turned out well, probably worth it. I got 'resurfacing' (grind, level, epoxy coat) estimates from $4.50 to $7.50 per square foot. Anyone have experience and advice about grinding concrete floors?

I don't think that diamond grinding is the way to go. It might look more rough, but as far as the concrete molecules know (and they know), it's slick as snot.
